A South Korean tourist was arrested on Friday after being stopped for walking under theCounter lookout after he took Viagra pills from a Korean shop he owned, a South Korean daily said.
The South Korean, who had also been arrested, was walking on theSEP border on Saturday when he saw officers from South Korea’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS), followed by two US military officers.
The US military was investigating whether the tourist had bought Viagra pills from a supplier of pharmaceuticals and then handed them to the local police.
“After a consultation and a discussion on the relevant factors, the US and Korea decided to give the tourist a chance to buy a fake Viagra,” a South Korean news agency quoted the US National Police Agency (NPA) as saying.
Counter lookout was a common stop-and-frisk phenomenon that often took place behind the counter in South Korea.
“When the guy walked up the street and saw that the counter had been removed and he took a bottle of Viagra, he immediately started running towards the street,” the South Korean police said.
The local police also said the tourist was carrying a fake Viagra with the words “Sildenafil” and “Tegretol”.
The report comes after an arrest by the US special forces in connection with the alleged crime of selling counterfeit drugs and other health products.
In 2017, a Korean tourist was detained after he took Viagra pills from a US pharmacy he owned, a South Korean daily said.
The South Korean was then arrested on the suspicion that he was selling fake medicines and other products, in which he had obtained US drugs from overseas.
The US national police said they believed the local man bought the fake Viagra from the seller and took the fake medication into South Korea.
“The police believe that the local tourist had also obtained a prescription for the drug and took it to the US to buy it and had to pay a fine,” the news agency said.
